Watch Review: Mr Jones Watches Mispoes! (Tom & Jerry On Your Wrist)

The endless pursuit of cat and mouse is playfully captured in the newest permanent release from Mr Jones Watches. The "Mispoes!" watch is a lighthearted take on the idea of time seeming to slip away from us when we're caught up in the moment.

Originally released in June 2023 and limited to just 200 pieces (and a slightly different design), the Mispoes! watch became somewhat of a grail watch for cat and watch lovers alike. Mr Jones announced in July 2024 that the Mispoes! will return, but this time as a permanent watch in their lineup.

This is the original Mispoes! design that was released in 2023

A Game Of Cat And Mouse

Mr Jones always finds unique and creative ways to tell the time on their watches. Mispoes! is no different. The hour hand is the outstretched paw of the cat, and the minutes are represented by the mouse running around the dial. The cat never actually catches the mouse but will continue to chase it, focused and determined.

The Artist

This watch was designed by Belgian art student Kaat Deceuninck who has experience in artistic mediums including animation, illustration, and graphic design. She likes to keep her art simplistic and playful, which is reflected in Mispoes!

Kaat was introduced to Mr Jones Watches through her art teacher, Kristof Devos, who has collaborated with Mr Jones Watches in the past. Kristof's designs include A Perfectly Useless Morning, A Perfectly Useless Afternoon, and Enjoy The Ride.

The Inspiration Behind Mispoes!

Kaat took direct inspiration from watching her cat play with his toys. To her, although observing her pet's playtime was entertaining, it didn't feel fulfilling. To her cat, he was having the time of his life.
She then began to imagine the world through the eyes of her cat and realized no time is ever really wasted; we just need to embrace it and fully live in the moment.

What Is A 'Mispoes'?

The term "Mispoes!" (not to be confused with "mispose") is a Dutch idiom meaning "you missed, cat!" This phrase is often used when someone misses a throw or a catch, and is similar to the sports saying "swing and a miss".

Box And Presentation:

Each Mr Jones Watch is individually packaged in a rectangular box. These boxes are covered with a protective sleeve. The front of the protective sleeve sports the monogram MJW while the back has an old-timey circus motif with a cut-out letting you view the caseback of the watch.

Sliding the sleeve off reveals a sturdy pressboard box with the same MJW monogram. Opening the box reveals a paper insert with the MJW monogram, the name of the watch, and the designer. Inside this insert is more information on the designer, in this case Kaat, and a small write-up of Mispoes! The back of the insert contains care instructions and warranty information.

The watch sits inside a rigid foam cut-out, ensuring it won't rattle around during shipping. The back of the pressboard box is also cut out, matching the hole in the protective sleeve. Mr Jones Watches ensures their timepieces are packaged snugly to prevent and any all damage.

Case And Strap:

The case is made from 316L stainless steel and measures in at 37mm in diameter and 10.5mm tall, with a lug width of 18mm, perfect for big and small wrists alike.

The crystal is sapphire glass, which means it's resistant to most bumps and knocks it may encounter. We still recommend being extra careful around doorframes, tables, and ledges.

It's water resistant to 5 ATM, so anything beyond a light splash may damage it. We wouldn't recommend wearing it in the shower or swimming.

The watch comes on a brown nubuck strap, but Mr Jones Watches offers a variety of straps to choose from at no extra cost. I decided to go with a more casual turquoise nylon strap with contrast orange stitching to match the cat on the dial.

Movement:

Mispoes! Is powered by a single jewel Ronda 513 analog quartz movement. The estimated battery life on this movement is 45 months, giving you just over 3.5 years before the battery should be replaced. It takes a single 371 1.5V battery, which should cost you less than $5.

Negatives:

Some may consider this a novelty watch, and that's fine. It's supposed to be whimsical and sort of silly; while this approach might bother some watch gatekeepers, that's their problem.

I quite enjoy when someone stops me to ask about my watch, especially if it's a Mr Jones Watch. Usually, they notice the colourful designs first, and then ask how it tells the time.

Aside from that I don't have any negative things to say about this watch. This watch does what it's supposed to do—tell the time—and it also puts a smile on my face. That's a win-win.

It's well made with close attention to detail, the packaging is top-notch, and it's obvious Mr Jones Watches puts a lot of extra effort into ensuring customers are happy with their purchases.

Summary

At a price of £225 (roughly $290US) with free worldwide shipping, and a 12-month warranty, Mispoes! is a fun little watch that won't break the bank. Sign up to the Mr Jones Watches email list to be the first to know when they have sales. You may find yourself with a bargain.
