Is A Gentleman Perfect? The Bottom Line

The term "perfect gentleman" is thrown around quite often in circles with both men and women who fantasize about sweeping someone off their feet or being swept off their feet, respectively. The person of their dreams who is everything they ever wanted and more; well spoken, perfect physique, flawless smile, gets along with their friends, and can satisfy every whim instantly… But this isn't reality.

While we all strive for greatness and perfection, the harsh reality is that none of us will ever be perfect. Someone will always be better than you at something, more productive, and more liked by their peers. We can observe and modify our actions and thoughts under a macro lens right down to the atoms, but there's a line between being human and becoming a robot who calculates every move for maximum efficiency. We are not robots.

We may see being flawless as a positive trait admired by many, but being flawless means you have a mindset that you've already learnt all there is to learn. There's no room for improvement, and if there's no room for improvement then you aren't growing. Also, someone who sees themselves as flawless or perfect cannot deal with criticism or failure. To them, that is the worst feeling in the world. Game over.

Develop A Growth Mindset

There is a way to seek perfection without becoming perfect. It's having a positive growth mindset in your life. A view that you use every day to grow your strengths and develop skills. This mindset means that you are always looking for ways to improve in all aspects in your life. Constant improvement leads to stronger abilities and new opportunities.

Having a positive growth mindset means that even when things do not work in your favour, you look for ways to improve instead of focusing on what went wrong. Being able to trace your steps and seeing the signs of failure is the first step to learning and improving. It's easy to point fingers and pass the blame, but being able to say "This was my fault, my responsibility. Here's what went wrong" is the right thing. It takes a lot of willpower and strength to admit that you were wrong, but it also opens the door to improve and ask for assistance, if you need it.

Developing a growth mindset can be difficult. Our article on 14 Ways To Develop Strong Character can help you along your journey.

Don't Be Afraid To Make Mistakes

Mistakes are one of the best ways to learn. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. It's much better to make a mistake and learn from it than to be too afraid to do something out of fear of making a mistake. Take chances, challenge yourself, and don't be scared or intimidated by something new. If someone tells you the stove is hot and you don't believe them, find out first hand and touch it yourself. Now you know.

Ask For Help

There's nothing wrong with asking for help. Some people have a belief that asking for help means they're weak. However, asking for help means that you seek to improve by learning from someone who you believe knows what they're doing. This could be a professional or even a peer that has experience. There's no shame in asking someone to assist you or offer advice if you believe they have the knowledge you seek. Help doesn't always have to come from a peer, it can also come from online. Search engines are a great tool to look up information and find guides on things you may be unsure of.

Not sure how to ask questions? Our article titled How To Start Asking Better Questions is a quick and easy guide that can assist you.

Reminder: No One Is Perfect

No one is perfect and those who believe they are, are living a lie. We can strive for perfection, but perfection is a strong word. Instead, be the best you can be. Be open to new possibilities, new challenges, and different views. Challenge yourself and don't be afraid of failure. Know that there's always room for improvement, no matter what stage you are at. The world is a massive place and new discoveries and developments are constantly shaping and shifting how we live. No one has ever perfected life, and no one ever will.
